🥊 Apple Watch vs Garmin: the match continues

2 min read

I’ve already published an article on the differences between the Apple Watch Ultra and the Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 — you can find it right here . Since then, I’ve decided to give Garmin a real shot by testing the Fenix 8 (47mm).

🎯 Goal: keep it for at least a year to see whether its sports features are genuinely indispensable or just gadgetry.

📆 The year’s plan

During this period, I’m planning:

  • A Hyrox 🏋️
  • CrossFit 💪
  • A marathon 🏃
  • MTB rides 🚵
  • And a few trail runs as a bonus 🌲

📌 All related articles will be grouped under a dedicated tag — handy for following how the test evolves.

⌚️ Reminder: I was coming from an Apple Watch Ultra 2

I came from an Apple Watch Ultra 2, with:

  • An AppleCare plan
  • A 4G line to go out without my phone 📶

Clearly, that was an ultra-connected setup. For the Garmin to replace it, I needed a minimum level of tech comfort.

🔄 Switching to the Garmin Fenix 8 (47mm)

So the Fenix 8 in 47mm takes over.
🤑 I’ve set up Garmin Pay for contactless payments
🚪 And I’ve installed the MerossIQ app to open my garage without pulling out my phone.

👉 Those two features were non-negotiable to properly replace the Apple Watch in daily life.

🧠 What to expect?

I hope these articles will help you make the right choice, especially if you’re on the fence about switching from one to the other.

And above all… don’t make the mistake of wearing two watches at the same time 🤡
We all know someone who does that. And that someone… might be you 😅

🔁 Coming very soon: my first impressions after a few weeks with the Fenix 8!
