If you want to replace your Polo or Golf’s head unit without spending a fortune, I strongly recommend this device . It lets you add CarPlay or Android Auto to your car. The build quality is flawless — so much so you’d think it came out of the same factories.
Installation is super simple with this kit . I didn’t film the head unit swap and I can’t be bothered to pull it apart again to do the reverse and take photos for you, but don’t worry — it’s genuinely child’s play.
You need to remove the trim panel around the head unit by unclipping it with the kit . Once the trim is off, you’ll have access to the four Torx screws you need to undo. Then just pull the head unit toward you. The connectors come off in one block (the black part) — don’t pull them one by one!
You also have the small antenna cable to disconnect. In my case I needed this adapter to reconnect it to the new unit.
Once all the cables are disconnected, just do the whole thing in reverse with the new head unit. And test your connections before putting the screws back in.
Honestly, at the price of the head unit and given its quality, it’s a great deal for upgrading an older Volkswagen with CarPlay!
