On the other hand, all the “surrounding” stuff is frustrating — starting with the impossibility of charging the camera via USB. I genuinely don’t understand why this isn’t possible, and it’s the same story across all Leica models. When you’re out and about, being able to plug it in if you’ve forgotten the charger is essential. The body is light, but if you have to add the weight and bulk of the charger, you often end up with a flat battery and the charger sitting at home.
As for battery life, it’s the same as the Sony A7R
— catastrophic in my opinion, especially when you see the insane battery life you get from the latest A7 III generation, nearly double.
When you add weak battery life to the impossibility of charging on the go, battery anxiety becomes a real thing.
And that’s it! No kidding 😝 — at €4,000 for a camera, thankfully there’s nothing else to complain about. Taking photos with it is a genuine pleasure. Photo quality, colour rendering — especially indoors where the Sony really struggles — the Leica is extraordinary. But at that price 🏷, battery life and external charging are two deal-breakers I simply can’t accept.
