I’m a big fan of Peak Design products. The brand made a name for itself in the photography world with its specialised camera backpacks.
I used their Peak Design Everyday Backpack for a long time — it’s perfect for carrying all sorts of things thanks to its modular divider system. With it, you can comfortably set off with your laptop and camera inside, with plenty of room left over for everything else.

Recently I wanted to change my camera strap so I could share it between my two cameras . I picked up the Peak Design Leash , whose clever anchor system lets you quickly detach the strap. I was, however, very disappointed with the system.
Let’s go straight to the main problem with this strap : the anchor system. It looks practical, but in practice you’ll need to add a small metal loop if the strap lug on your camera is too narrow to thread the anchor through directly. Guess what? 😶 The lugs on my Leica are too narrow… so I’m forced to add those inelegant little metal bits.
Then the anchor hardware itself is too bulky — the plastic buckles are way too large and get in the way even when I want to grab the camera to take a shot. Those plastic attachments are visible and ugly.
The length-adjustment system is well designed. You can quickly set the strap to wear your camera around your neck or as a sling. However, that mechanism is metal, and since I store the strap in the same bag as my camera, the scratching risk is too high. Ironically I bought this strap precisely because its anchor system doesn’t rub against the camera body and wouldn’t scratch it — yet with this strap, it’s the length-adjustment part that ends up doing the scratching.
So there it is — I was disappointed with this Peak Design Leash and I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m going back to my nice strap and accepting that the length isn’t adjustable.
