If like me you’re experiencing slowdown issues watching 4K films from your NAS, I’d suggest taking a look at the SMB protocol.
It turns out that file sharing over Samba seems slower than simple FTP. On my Synology I simply enabled sharing via the FTP protocol, and since then I can play 4K films on Infuse on my Apple TV 4K .
I also noticed that Infuse Pro isn’t optimised for 4K video playback. That said, I’d encourage you to try Plex , which unlike Infuse requires you to install a server component on a NAS or a Raspberry Pi-type computer. But Plex is capable of streaming a 4K stream without any buffering.
I’ll put together a full write-up on this software, which I think is outstanding.
So if you think you’re in the same situation, I’d recommend making the switch.
While you’re at it, change the default FTP port to avoid getting hacked too easily.
Happy watching 🎥!
