Finally an Apple Watch App to Listen to Music from Plex

I love Plex for managing all my music. But what a nightmare when I wanted to go for a run with my Apple Watch! No way to enjoy my library without my iPhone bouncing around in my pocket… Honestly, not ideal. 🏃‍♂️

After searching everywhere for ages, I finally stumbled on a real gem created by an independent developer: Wristrax . I tested it, and I can tell you — it’s a game changer!

Finally, the missing piece! ⌚

Let’s be honest — there isn’t even an official Plex app on Watch for music, and that’s exactly the problem! Wristrax completely changes the game and fills that gap. We’re not talking about streaming (which drains the battery and cuts out constantly), but proper offline playback.

I tested it: with this app, you have to download your tracks to the watch first. Yes, it’s an extra step, but what a pleasure! Once it’s on the Watch, music plays perfectly without any interruptions, and best of all: you can finally leave your phone at home! 📡❌

So, how does it work? ✨

It’s pretty straightforward, as long as you follow the guide:

  • On iPhone: Connect to your server (via Plex.tv , very secure). Choose your favorite albums or playlists.

  • Top-notch quality: The app offers fine-grained settings. You can compress files to save space on the watch, or keep the Original quality to preserve the sound as-is. Really well thought out.

  • The sync: This is where you need a bit of patience. The transfer to the Watch happens quietly in the background. It takes a while due to Apple’s limitations, but once it’s done, you’re all set! 🎶

My take: Go ahead, test the beta! ✅

The interface on the watch is super clean and incredibly simple to use. You browse your artists in the blink of an eye and adjust the volume with the watch crown — super smooth.

The project is still improving and the developer is looking for people to test the beta. He needs our feedback to fix the last few small bugs before the official release. If you have a Plex server, go help him out and try it! It’s thanks to us that the app will be perfect for everyone.

This is exactly the kind of small indie tool I love: it solves a real problem and works really well! 👏

So, ready to set your music free? If you join the beta, feel free to reach out and let me know what you think! 👇
