If you’re a BetterTouchTool fan like me, you’re probably already using it. As a reminder, this little tool lets you configure your mouse and trackpad to assign actions to any gesture. This utility is essential to me and has been installed on my machine since it first existed!
But today I want to talk about what it can do for configuring the Touch Bar on a recent MacBook Pro.
Much like Pock, which I covered in an article here , you can have a whole range of information permanently on display.

I’ll admit I like having emojis permanently in front of me so I can drop them into my texts (yes, I know, I’m a child) 🤷♂️
I also added the date — just like Pock allows — but unlike Pock, BetterTouchTool lets you configure the format however you want.
The battery widget is available too, though it’s slightly less polished than on Pock since the icon doesn’t update based on charge level…
You can add a weather widget too — not hugely useful, but I think it looks nice.
I also added the media widget, which shows a button with the name of what’s currently playing. It works with iTunes and Spotify. It’s a bit more limited than on Pock though — you can only play or pause, you can’t skip to the next track.
Finally I added a button that lets me toggle dark mode on demand. I’m not a huge fan of dark mode, but if I need to work somewhere with low light, it’s nice to be able to switch it on.
