Well, did you know you can actually go even lower using the “Reduce White Point” setting in the Accessibility options?

To enable it, go to the Accessibility menu then “Display Accommodations”. Personally I set it to 85%, which lets me read in iBooks with a black background in complete comfort.

Once you’ve found the percentage that works for you, go to the “Accessibility Shortcuts” menu and check “Reduce White Point” — then to toggle the feature on/off, just triple-click the home button (if you have a Touch ID button, otherwise the power button).
